On the 19th of May 2014, Sinnergiak Social Innovation (UPV/EHU) took part in the Workshop on Social Innovation that was organised by the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP), held in Madrid.

The conference was attended by representatives from the University of A Coruña, Logroño City Hall, Malaga Provincial Council, Universities from Madrid and Sinnergiak Social Innovation from the University of the Basque Country.

The aim of the workshop was to lay the groundwork to launch the State Network for Social Innovation. Two presentations were given in the workshop to lay the foundations for the network. The first presentation detailed the strategies to support social innovation being implemented by the INAP, and the second related to the model and strategy for developing the Urban Social Innovation Index (Urbansindex) strategy proposed by Sinnergiak Social Innovation, which measures social innovation in cities of varying sizes and with different profiles. The network will develop a protocol that enables it to set up city-wide partnerships or social innovation hubs formed by the public sector, academia and the private sector.

At the workshop, they presented the conceptual foundations upon which the network will conduct its research and boost social innovation in urban areas. One of the conceptual and methodological issues that will be addressed by the network will be to develop a model that is capable of integrating the public administration into the social innovation mapping and measurement system. The aim is not only to have social innovation process, product and impact indicators, but also to create tools that provide information about trends and strategies to drive urban and regional policies on social innovation.
